  2. Changing password.

    • Selecting 'System Configuration' from the dropdown navigation box.

    • Click the 'manage' link for 'Update Admin Password' item. The 'Update Admin Password' page will be loaded.

    • Enter the default password, 'password' in the 'Current password' field box.

    • Then enter your desired password in both the 'New password' and 'Confirm new password' field boxes.

    • Finally, click the 'Update Admin Password' button to save your new password.

  3. Creating areas.

The next step is you need to define the areas. An area is a location on your site where you'll be displaying your banners or text ads. For example if you have a spot on the top of your pages displaying 468x60 banners, that spot is an area with dimension 468x60. The same goes for an area with dimension 120x600 which displays tower banners on the side of your pages, or an area with dimension 88x31 which displays buttons on the bottom of your pages. You need to define each areas for each banner dimensions you have.

To create a new area, follow these steps:

    • Click the 'A' icon for 'Areas' item on the 'Summary' page or ...

    • If you are not on the main 'Summary' page, just select the 'Area Listing' from the dropdown navigation box, then after the 'Area Listing' page is loaded, click the 'add new area' link.

    • The 'Add new area' page will be loaded.

    • First, enter a name for your new area in the 'Area name' field box. Since this name can't be changed later on, select a unique and descriptive name so that it can correctly identify this area, among any other areas you might have later on. The maximum length is 25 characters.

    • Next, select its dimension. If you intend to display 468x60 banners or advertising through this area, select '468x60' from the 'Select preconfigured area dimension' list. You may notice a selection 'text' in that list. Well you can use this selection if you want to display only text ads through this area. If you're using custom dimension, enter its width and height (in pixels) in the 'Specify new custom dimension' field boxes. Once you specified new dimension, that dimension will appears in the list. So the next time you add a new area, you don't have to specify it again.

    • Then select the appropriate banner category for this area from the 'Area category' list. This category value will make sure only banners with the same category will be shown through this area.

    • The 'Maximum banner size' field is useful if you're planning to allow your advertisers to upload their banners themselves. This value will make sure you advertisers always use banners that are smaller or the same as this value in their sizes. This value is in kilobytes (1 Kbytes = 1024 bytes).

    • Finally, click the 'Add this Area!' button to save your new area.

    • If the process is successful, the 'New Area Added' page will be displayed containing the new area's properties.

  4. Creating advertisers.

An advertiser is an owner for the campaigns, banners, text ads, or trackers. Therefore, you need at least one advertiser before attempting to create any of those content. By default, AdvertisementManager has a built-in advertiser called 'administrator'. You can use this if you're planning to run self-own or inhouse advertising.

There are some advantages in using advertisers:

    • All the campaigns, banners, text ads, and trackers will be grouped together according to their advertisers for easy management.

    • You can enable your advertisers to login and check their ad statistics anytime by giving them their own dedicated username and password.

    • You can also grant permissions to your advertisers so that they can manage their own advertising content (such as uploading or updating their banners) themselves.

    • At any time, you can suspend or re-activate your advertisers from one page. For instance, if you need to suspend an advertiser, just enter the 'Edit Advertiser' page and execute it. Then all the campaigns, banners, text ads, or trackers belonged to that advertiser will be suspended from broadcasting automatically.

To create an advertiser, simply follow these steps:

    • Click the 'A' icon for 'Advertisers' item on the 'Summary' page or ...

    • If you are not on the main 'Summary' page, just select the 'Advertiser Listing' from the dropdown navigation box, then after the 'Advertiser Listing' page is loaded, click the 'add new advertiser' link.

    • The 'Add new Advertiser' page will be loaded.

    • In the 'Contact Information' table, enter the advertiser's contact details. All the fields are optional though. You only need to enter the 'First name', 'Last name', and 'Contact email' fields if you're planning to send statistical reports or advertising invoices to this advertiser.

    • Contrary to the above table, the 'Login Details' table needs to be filled.

    • First, enter a descriptive and unique name for your advertiser. Similar to the 'Area name' above, this name can't be changed later on. It must be between 4 to 25 alphanumeric characters. This name will also served as a username for this advertiser to login.

    • Then, enter the login password for this advertiser in both the 'Password' and 'Password verify' fields. This password needs to be between 6 to 25 alphanumeric characters.

    • For the 'Account Limitations' table, you only need to update it if:

      1. you're planning to give this advertiser permissions to manage his or her banners, text ads, or trackers and ...

      2. want to control how many of these advertising content this advertiser can create or has at any one time. '0' means unlimited.

    • The 'Email Preferences' tables controls how AdvertisementManager will sends emails to this advertiser. If you don't plan to send this advertiser any emails through AdvertisementManager, you can safely skip this table and the next 4 steps below.

    • For the 'Receive email?' option, select whether or not you want this advertiser to receive any emails through AdvertisementManager.

    • If the above option is enabled, select what format those emails will be at the 'Email format' option.

    • You can control how frequent the statistical reports can be sent to this advertiser at the 'Email stats' option. 'Never' means this advertiser will never receive any reports.

    • The 'Stats location' option controls where the above reports must be located:

      1. 'Within email's body' value means the report will be intergrated within the email's message body,

      2. 'As .csv file attachment' means the report will be formatted in .csv (comma separated values) file format and attached to the email,

      3. 'As .txt file attachment' is similar to the above only the report's file format is .txt (tab separated values).

  5. Creating campaigns.

You need to create campaigns so that you can controls how the banners, text ads, or trackers can be served. In other words, by using a campaign you can apply certain display limitations for a single or a group of banners, text ads, or trackers. These limitations are:

    • Maximum impressions and/or clicks the campaign can receive before expires.
    • The starting and ending dates of the campaign.
    • On which days it can be displayed.
    • Which hourly period it can be displayed.
    • The locations on your sites it can be displayed.

To create a campaign, just follow these steps:

    • Click the 'A' icon for 'Campaigns' item on the 'Summary' page or ...

    • If you are not on the main 'Summary' page, just select the 'Campaign Listing' from the dropdown navigation box, then after the 'Campaign Listing' page is loaded, click the 'add new campaign' link.

    • The 'Add new Campaign: STEP 1' page will be loaded.

    • At the 'For advertiser' option, select for which advertiser the new campaign be.

    • Click the 'Next >' button to continue.

    • The 'Add new Campaign: STEP 2' page will be loaded.

    • At the 'Campaign Details' table:

      • Enter a descriptive and unique name for this campaign at the 'Campaign name' field. This name must be between 4 to 25 characters and can only contains alphanumeric characters.

      • Next, at the 'Status' field, mark the 'Active' radio to tell AdvertisementManager this campaign is active.

      • For the 'Priority' field, select the display priority for this campaign. '10' means this campaign has the highest priority and will be shown the most. The default value is '5'.

      • The next 2 fields: 'Billing rate' and 'Bill to invoice' are optional. Follow the next 2 steps if you're planning to bill this campaign.

      • If you have any billing rates, those rates will be listed at the 'Billing rate' option. Then you can bill this campaign according to any one of those rates.

      • For the 'Bill to invoice', you can bill this campaign to any of the existing invoices listed in this option. If you want to bill this campaign to a new invoice, don't select any values at the 'Bill to invoice' option. This is because when you generate invoices afterword, new invoices will be generated automatically for any campaigns that have 'Billing rate' but don't have any invoices associated with them.

    • The 'Campaign Restriction' table controls the basic limitations of your campaign. They are:

      • At the 'Distribution type' option, select 'Keyword-based' if you want to this campaign to be served based on certain banner or text ad's keywords only. If those keywords are not present, this campaign will not be served. 'Normal' means this campaign will always be served even if the defined keywords are not present.

      • Next, select the starting date for this campaign at the 'Start date' options. The default starting date is today.

      • If you want this campaign to expire on certain date, specify it at the 'End date' options. If this campaign don't have expiration date, make sure its 'End date' is the same as the 'Start date'.

      • You can also target this campaign on certain time of the day at the 'Time of day' options.

      • If want this campaign to expire after receiving certain amount of impressions, enter the maximum impression count at the 'Max impressions' field. Else leave this field blank.

      • For the 'Max clicks' field, its function is the same as the above only it's for clicks.

    • Next, you can target this campaign to appear on certain days only by checking the desired days in the 'Day of week Targeting' table.

    • You can also target this campaign for certain browsers only through the 'Browser Targeting' table.

    • At the 'Broadcasting Areas' table, select where this campaign should be displayed.

    • For the next 3 tables: 'Containing Banners', 'Containing Text Ads', and 'Containing Trackers' tables, select which banners, text ads, and/or trackers you want to serve through this campaign.

    • Finally, click the 'Add this Campaign!' button to save your new campaign.

    • If the process is successful, the 'New Campaign Added' page will be loaded containing your newly created campaign's properties.

      • Enter a short, descriptive name for the new banner at the 'Banner name' field. This name must be between 4 to 25 alphanumeric characters. Similar to the above names, it can't be changed later on.

      • Next, select the banner's dimension at the 'Dimension' options. If you don't see the correct dimension at this list, you need to create a new area with that list first.

      • At the 'Category' options, select the correct category for this banner. Later on, this banner will only be displayed through the areas with the same categories & dimensions as itself.

      • For the 'Status' options, select 'Active' to activate this banner immediately.

      • Select the appropriate priority for this banner at the 'Priority' options. '10' marks the banner as the highest priority and will be displayed the most compared to the other banners. The default value is '5'.

      • Next, at the 'Media type' options, mark 'Standard' if the banner is image-based. If you'll be using custom HTML, flash, or any other banner codes, then mark 'Rich'.

    • For the 'Broadcasting Campaigns' table, select which campaign or campaigns this banner will be served from.

    • Next, if you want to target this banner for certain keywords, enter it in the 'Keyword Targeting' table. If you're using multiple keywords, separate them with a comma. The maximum length for each keywords is 50 characters.

    • If this banner is an image-based, enter its details at the 'Details for standard banner' table:

      • For the 'Image URL' field, there are 4 ways you can tell AdvertisementManager where the banner's image is:

        1. You can directly specify the image's URL at the 'Enter image's URL' field. If you want to copy that image locally, check the 'Fetch and save this image locally' checkbox. AdvertisementManager will grab the image at the location specified and store it on your server.

        2. If you already have images uploaded, select any one of them from the 'Or select any of the uploaded images on the server' options.

        3. If you have the banner's image somewhere on your server, specify the exact path to it at the 'Or enter the image's full path' field.

        4. You can also upload the image directly from your PC at the 'Or upload new image to server' field.

      • Next, specify where your visitors will be forwarded to when they clicked this banner at the 'Target URL' field. The maximum length for this value is 255 characters.

      • The 'Alternate text' field is usefull for describing your banner to someone with image disabled browser. The text in this field will also be displayed as a tooltip when a mouse cursor is placed on the banner. Enter this field only if you prefer any of those features. The maximum length for this value is 50 characters.

      • If you want to display a short descriptive text below this banner, enter it at the 'Description' field. Just like the banner's image, this text string will also be hyperlinked. You can enter up to 50 characters here.

      • Normally, when the mouse's cursor is hovered on a banner, the banner's target URL will be displayed at the browser's status bar. Well, if you don't like this to happen, just enter any texts at the 'Status bar text' field. So, instead of the banner's target URL, this text is the one that will be displayed at the browser's status bar.

    • But if this banner is a HTML, flash, or any other code-based banner, enter its codes in the 'Details for rich media banner' table. When broadcasted, all the codes in this table will be displayed exactly as it is.

    • When you're done with the above tasks, click the 'Add this Banner!' button to save your new banner.
